Riding Out West (US)?
#1 | 07-19-2010, 01:51 PM

Hey all. I am looking to head out West in the United States next summer for vacation. I'd love to visit Yellowstone National Park, but also find some ranches or stables where I can ride. I'm looking at traveling anywhere throughout Wyoming or Colorado, maybe even as far over as Seattle, Washington. I want to do some trail riding with some beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife, but I don't want to be a tourist. I want to actually ride and maybe do some camping with the horses! Whether I can trailer out my own horse, or be assigned one - it doesn't matter to me. But I don't want to be walking along behind some trail guide like I've never been on a horse before, I'd love to go out and really ride, help with a round up, or something new I've never experienced! I know liability is a huge issue these days, and it's been difficult finding a facility that provides what I'm looking for. But if you or anyone you know has their own place out West that does horse rentals, or if you are familiar with a ranch that offers this, PLEASE let me know or send me a link to their website. I really appreciate it and look forward to it! Thank you.

My wife keeps trying to get me to fly someplace for a vacation. She has been to (Cario Egypt, Shanghi China, and Sydney Astralia this year) I keep telling her she need to get on a horse and see the top of Square Top in the WindRivers, or Union Falls in Yellowstone. She prefers to ride on an airplane and I prefer to sit in the saddle.

You will love your experience. There is so much to see from the back of a horse in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado. I don't know how much time you have, But if you can trailer your horse out west and just camp with him, You will have a great time.

I just spent last weekend with some folks from Missouri who hauled out here and spent the last 3 weeks. They contacted me off the internet and asked for suggestions, Which I gladly gave them. I couldn't take 3 weeks off to join them. But did join them on the weekends, It was a lot of fun and they are taking some great memories home with them.

They got to see lots of wildlife. Like this moose

They got to ride ontop of the world where you can see forever.
