Does everyone have a favorite place to ride trails in your area? I'd be curious what the names are and a short description of what its like!

Currently we've not taken tino on any trails (yet) but this next season we're definately going to. So share those secret spots near you so others can perhaps stop by and visit them! :D

Well around here we have Fort Custer, Yankee Springs, and Silver Creek and we visit each of them many times throughout the year.

Silver Creek is a nice little horsemans campground, mostly nice sandy trails and a couple little jumps. there is also a place near the parking where you can lead your horse down into the creek and let them roll.

Yankee Springs is a really fun forest environment in the thick trees, quite a few jumps, on one downfall there is one area where it is extreamly rocky but I am trying to find other ways around the rocks.

And the best of all Fort Custer. It a Horse/Bike/Hiking trails. The Fort has everything, a very good place to desensitize a horse, there are bridges, streams, jumps, skinny pathways, great scenery, there is a lake you can walk your horse around the edge, a sunken road that underwater with the water up to your horses belly, and 4 different well marked intertwining trails. You can either make a couple hours of it, of whole days. If any of you michiganders get down this way we'll have to go for a ride there!!

One of the reasons we bought our place is the proximity to trails. We are 15 minutes from Big South Fork National Park which has some of the best maintained horse trails in the country and 5 minutes away from East Fork which is a privately owned 12,000acre horse riding vacation spot. You can go ride at East Fork all day for $10! Excellent in my veiw.:)

Stephanie-We live in Maryville Tn, do you know where that is??? We went up to big south fork for our anniversery 2 yrs ago with the horses-rented a cabin with stalls-it was BEAUTIFUL!!! We had a blast, we plan on going up again-maybe this summer. Wish I could remember the name of the cabins we stayed at-you prolly know where it is. I know the one we stayed at was called the bunk house, and they had one called Martha's something and Custer's something? They were real cheap compared to over $100.00 a night here in the smokey's-and much more secluded. We did get a little lost on those trails-we kept going in circles-we finally found our way to a highway and just followed it til we seen the name of the road we were staying on. There was an old west type place for sale, just down the road-we thought it would be cool to buy and open up for old west cowboy weekends-like city slicker vacations-where people could come and be a cowboy for the week or two.

Were you at Bandy Creek? That is my favorite their trails are the best and you can ride about 3 miles and end up in Zenith which is another privately owned riding area and it is beautiful! Yes, I know where Maryville is, we are originally from the big city of Knoxville. We wanted to get out of there before our kids were in school. My mom is from Maryville, over off Niles Ferry. I have actually spent quite a lot of time in Maryville. My husband grew up in Seymour close to Maryville. You guys should come up this summer and we will all go riding.:)

Hey Hubby just told me the cabins where we stayed was called Bar-B. his screen name is circle-I guess he talked to you once before. boy it's a small world! Yes we will have to come up and ride this summer, I don't blame you for gettin out of Knoxville-thats no place to raise kids. Well I'm glad to meet ya! You guys got any snow up that a way? We are bone dry-as usual but cold. I figure if it's gonna be cold might as well have snow-atleast for Christmas! Then I don't care to see another snowflake until next christmas-I get to eager for spring!

Oh cool, I didn't know that Circle was your hubby. My hubby wouldn't join a forum to save his life:)

No, no snow but cold and windy. We have had a little snow up here this year but not enough to amount to anything. I can't wait for spring either.

I liked it up at South Fork but I would have to say I like Camping at Citigo. It's free There are alot of great trails, And plenty of trout fishing. Oh and did I say it is FREE lol. There is a Horse camp that costs like 5 bucks anite per horse. they have stand stalls water and now they build a small round pen there. You can either pitch a tent or if you have a camper they have have Hookups for that.I have always wanted to just Pack up the horses with what I could carry and head up into the mountain For some real camping adventure. Some day I will. Oh and a few other places that are nice to ride are Cades Cove and Tremount.

Well, when I was growing up..we had TONS of trails around my place. I could just saddle up in my front yard and go out for hours...non stop/endless trails available.

BUT, now folk are fencing off, selling to farmers, selling to the city...what-have-ya and they are all diminishing...slowly.

Most of the places now, where I used to beable to ride through fields and hills and forrest.......I now have to ride along the side of the road instead because they are all fenced off and off limits.

*sigh*

I have no favorite trails.........*sniff sniff*

at my old barn there were miles and miles and miles of seemingly endless trails but at the place im at now does not have barely any true trails but we go to federalsburg, sandtown, and Fair Hill. the one in sandtown is alot of fun because there are these HUGE sand dunes that you can climb, dense woods that are cool and shady, hills everywhere also to climb, and rivers and streams to cross. it is truly an extrodinary trail ride becasue it is like you are going through so many different terrains. Fair Hill is A LOT of fun also because there is SSOOO many trails to cover! you can only do like half or less of the trails in one day. but there are so many hills which are alot of fun. then there are bridges, tunnels, HUGE rocks, roads, and MANY streams and rivers. They are all so much fun and most are very relaxing unless you have a crazy nutcase horse *cough cough* lol!:p :D

The only trail I have ever been to down here in the mountains of North Carolina is Moses Cone. I guess for being in the mountains and so rocky its a pretty good trail. It's kind of like a maze with lots of trails but there is a big lake that you can walk around and let you horses get in. There are lots of bridges and tunnels and wooded areas and open fields. There is a fire tower you can ride up to and the Manor house where there are hitching posts and bathrooms. There is a cemetry and an old apple barn where you can rest. You can ride in the pasture with cows. Its right next to the Parkway so there are lots of cars. For the location I guess its a pretty good trail. The only other place to go trail riding is around the barn blazing paths through the woods and hope that it is not private property!! There are some places of the mountain but that is a good drive away.

we have trail rides at kensington metro park. its really fun because there's nobody but people who own horses there and they have the most amazing trails, water, bridges, and even a campsite and park. sooo much fun.

I think my favorite place to ride would be in the mountains. I love watching the wildlife and breathing the fresh clean air. And to top it off it is Beautiful. Many mountain lakes to stop at and have lunch.

We do all our trail riding down at Island 22 Horse Park (http://www.freewebs.com/island22horsepark/index.htm).

During the week we can go to the river pretty easily and wander around. WE have quite a few sand bars that are safe. On the weekends it is stupid though, too many moterbikes and 4-wheel drivers. grrrr
